As I stood outside Natasha's apartment, I wiped the sweat from my palms on my jeans. I hadn't been this nervous since I'd taken the homecoming queen at my high school to prom. I wanted everything to be perfect tonight.

I'd been anxious the whole day, constantly checking the clock and my phone while counting down the minutes until I got off of work.

Taking a deep breath, I knocked on her door.

“Coming,” came a muffled shout from inside. Natasha's voice was full of excitement, causing a grin to spread over my lips. At least I wasn’t the only excited one.

Once Natasha opened the door, she met me with a beaming smile. “Hi.”

She was wearing black leggings and a belted gray top. Her long, blonde hair was pulled to the side in a braid.

I couldn't speak as my brain processed her beauty. I'd always thought she was pretty, but she was even more so when she got dolled up. Her face glowed with happiness, evident in all of her features and enhancing her natural beauty.

Clearing my throat, I finally answered after several seconds. “Hi.” I leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. “You look beautiful.”

After looking down at herself, she returned her gaze to me. Her cheeks turned pink as she darted her eyes away and shyly smiled. “Thank you.”

I slid my hands in my pockets. “Are you ready to go?”

Natasha nodded, peering over her shoulder. “Let me get my purse and we can go.”

She turned around and went to the kitchen counter to grab her purse, meeting me back in the doorway. Closing the door behind her, she locked it, looked up at me and smiled. “Okay, let's go.”

I led her to my truck and helped her in. I didn't want her to re-injure her leg while trying to get into the raised cab.

That would be a great start to a first date.

When I got in and started the engine, she asked, “So, where are we going?”

A smirk lifted my lips as I put the truck in reverse and started backing out. “It's a surprise.”

She laughed. “Okay, Mr. Mysterious. Can you give me a hint, at least?”

I drove out of her apartment complex and turned right. “Um,” I paused, thinking of a clue I could give without revealing what we were doing. “It involves something you love to do.”

She was pursing her lips as I glanced over at her. “Are you taking me to an art showing?”

I looked back at the road and shrugged my shoulders. “I can't give away too much information; I don't want to ruin the surprise.”

She exhaled a playful huff. “I haven't heard about any showings tonight.” She hummed for a few seconds, thinking aloud, “What else could it be?”

“I guess you'll just have to wait and see,” I replied, smiling broadly at her.

Shaking her head, she fought a smile. “Just tell me! I want to know!”

“Nope.” I smirked. “We'll be there soon.”

Natasha huffed again and crossed her arms over her chest. “Men.”

When we pulled into the parking lot of our destination, Natasha sat forward, looking up at the sign on the building.
